The Bridge is a powerful and unique team performance programme.

The team can see itself in action under normal and high pressure situations. This helps team members to better understand their personal dynamics, the nature of their decision making, obstacles to performance, and where and why gaps exist that too often lead to frustration and underperformance.

The programme provides the development advice necessary to bridge these gaps and improve performance.

Prior to the day in Simon’s Town the teams’ profile is established by means of a non-judgmental and non-psychometric diagnostic tool in the form of an online questionnaire. 

This profile clearly shows why it is that certain tasks are carried out reluctantly and infrequently, while others take up most of the team’s productive time. 

New insights are reinforced as they are given visual meaning when the team starts to work through a series of challenging and practical ocean-based events. These take place on the bridge of the maritime simulator in Simon’s Town. The experience is recorded. Then during debriefing sessions the team watches and analyses itself in action. It observes how problems are solved and decisions made - and it can objectively assess the group dynamics at play.

These points are discussed in relation to the team’s actual work issues and challenges. The links between the team’s profile, its interpersonal behaviours and nautical achievements on the bridge, and the performance issues it faces in the real world are made by means of a logical and straightforward management process. This process is easy to apply; it provides a common language for solving problems and making decisions; it integrates each team members’ high and low contribution preferences; and it provides the team with a disciplined approach to manage the inevitable  performance ‘gaps’.
